What is Cannabis?
Cannabis is a plant that can affect the way you think and feel. Using it can cause risks to your health.

What are THC and CBD?
- THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the chemical in cannabis that makes you feel high. It can have good and bad effects.
- CBD (Cannabidiol) is a chemical in cannabis that doesn't make you feel high like THC.
There are three main types of cannabis products. Each type can contain different amounts of THC and CBD, depending on the product.
Types of Cannabis
Cannabis can be used in different ways. Each way can have different effects and risks.
1) Dried cannabis is made from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. It can be smoked or vaped.

2) Cannabis extracts
Includes concentrates (hashish, shatter, wax, vape cartridges, oil sprays, tinctures, capsules, creams or lotions)

Some forms of cannabis extracts, like hash oil or shatter, are very strong and can be more harmful to your health.

Legal Recreational Cannabis

Since October 2018, people in Canada can legally buy and use cannabis. The Nunavut Tobacco and Smoking Act says where you can buy and use cannabis in Nunavut. Legal cannabis is approved by the government and follows strict rules. Cannabis bought from a legal cannabis store:
- Is tested to make sure it does not have dangerous chemicals or mould.
- Shows the amount of THC and CBD so you know how much you are using.
- Comes in plain, child-resistant packaging to help keep kids safe.

In Nunavut, you can order it from the Nunavut Liquor and Cannabis Commission or its agents.
Medical cannabis is prescribed by a doctor for a specific health problem or treatment.

Cannabis Edibles
Edible cannabis are foods and drinks made with cannabis.
Eating cannabis is not the same as smoking it. It takes between 30 minutes to 2 hours to feel the effects. The effects of edible cannabis can last up to 12 hours.
If you are trying edibles for the first time, start with a small amount (2.5 grams of THC or less) and wait 2 to 4 hours to see how you feel before having more. Always read the label to know how much THC is in it.
Store cannabis edibles safely. Keep cannabis products in a locked area, and out of sight and reach of children and pets.

Cannabis Extracts
Cannabis extracts are a stronger form of cannabis. They have much more THC. Some examples are hash, oils, wax, and shatter. These can have 80-99% THC, while regular dried cannabis has about 10-25% THC.
Extracts can make you feel very high quickly, and it's easy to take too much. This can make you feel sick.
If you choose to use cannabis extracts:
- Buy it legally.
- Read the label to know how strong it is.
- Wait to feel the full effects before taking more.
- Keep cannabis products out of reach of children and pets.
