Reduce the negative health outcomes caused by tobacco use in Nunavut.


The Tobacco Reduction Program is part of the Government of Nunavut, Department of Health based in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The program manages tobacco reduction activities in all 25 Nunavut communities.

  • Protecting Nunavummiut from second-hand smoke and other harms of tobacco by strengthening and enforcing the Tobacco Control and Smoke-Free Places Act.
  • ASupporting tobacco users to reduce and quit smoking or chewing with access to information in the language of their choice, counselling, medications and community programs.
  • Training health and wellness workers on tobacco cessation.
  • De-normalizing tobacco use in Nunavut via mass media initiatives, such as the Tobacco Has No Place Here campaign, utilizing Facebook, radio, television and other media.
