About

Goal:

Reduce the negative health outcomes caused by tobacco, vape and cannabis use in Nunavut.

Activities:

The Tobacco and Cannabis Program is part of the Government of Nunavut, Department of Health based in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The program manages tobacco, vaping and cannabis reduction activities in all 25 Nunavut communities.

  • Protecting Nunavummiut from second-hand smoke and other harms of tobacco by strengthening and enforcing the Tobacco and Smoking Act.
  • Supporting tobacco users to reduce and quit smoking, vaping or chewing with access to information in the language of their choice, counselling, medications and community programs.
  • Training health and wellness workers on tobacco cessation and cannabis harm reduction.
  • De-normalizing tobacco and cannabis use in Nunavut via mass media initiatives, utilizing Facebook, radio, television and other media.
